Competition Classes

The STEM Racing Canada Challenge is currently divided into three competition classes: Entry, Development, and Professional.

The Entry Class is suggested for students in grades 5–8 and is designed to introduce younger or first-time teams to the basics of the challenge. Teams design and race 3D-printed cars, build a tabletop pit display, submit a simplified engineering portfolio, and deliver a 5-minute verbal presentation. Entry Class teams can compete within their classrooms and at Regional Finals, making it an ideal place for new programs to start and gain foundational STEM skills. This class does not progress to the National or World Finals.

The Development Class, also for students in grades 5–8, is a step up in technical and presentation requirements. Teams must build CNC-manufactured cars, create a full-scale pit display (3'x8'x8'), submit Engineering & Enterprise portfolios, and deliver a 10-minute presentation. Development Class teams compete through Regional and National Finals, with the opportunity to earn the title of National Champions. It is an excellent option for teams looking to grow their skills and prepare for future Professional-level competition.

The Professional Class is designed for more advanced teams, typically in grades 8–12, who are ready for a rigorous and comprehensive STEM experience. Teams must develop CNC-manufactured cars, full pit displays, and detailed Engineering, Enterprise, and Project Management portfolios. They also present a 10-minute verbal presentation defending their technical and business strategies. Professional Class teams can compete at the Regional, National, and World Finals, with the ultimate goal of becoming World Champions.

All three classes are open to any eligible grade-level team, so choose the one that best fits your team’s readiness and ambition! You don’t have to start in Entry or Development if you’re ready for the ultimate STEM Racing Challenge!
